INGROWING NAILS
This is a painful condition, which is caused by the nail being too wide for the toe. The toe will tend to swell which makes the nail stick in even more. There are two alternatives for the treatment of ingrown nails. These are;
- Regular routine chiropody. This is probably the best option if the nails become uncomfortable every three to four months
- Partial nail avulsion. If the nails cause pain frequently and the toes become infected it is worth considering this option. The basic aim is to make the nail narrower as it is only the side section that sticks in and causes the pain.
The procedure has several distinct advantages:
Evening sessions and the use of local anaesthetic mean that it is perfectly all right to go to work or school the next day.
Only the side of the nail is removed thus the appearance is virtually unaltered.
It is non-invasive with rapid healing and no scarring.
The treatment is a permanent solution and thus the nail will always be pain free.

ORTHOTICS
For millions of years the human foot walked over soft surfaces such as earth or sand. To get a grip, the outside edge of the heel dug in on contact. This meant the rest of the foot had a firm anchor when it came into contact with the ground.
We now walk on hard flat surfaces. When the outer edge of the heel comes into contact with the ground, it cannot dig in, so the whole foot has to roll in to accommodate the higher outside edge. This is the major cause of flat feet. It also places great strain on the knees, hips and back.
What orthotics do is rebalance the foot by raising the inner edge of the heel making it level with outer edge they also support the arch to stop it collapsing an additional shock absorbing heel dot protects against jarring.

Verruca Treatments
Verrucae and warts are caused by same virus, the only difference being the appearance. The pressure of walking first compacts and pushes them into the skin. These two actions make them extremely difficult to treat. Like an iceberg, most of it is below the surface. After confirmation that the lesion is a verruca we remove as much of the infected tissue as possible, we then apply chemicals that attack and breakdown the remaining tissue.
